Switching to SEPA bank transfers by 31.03.2013
Payment systems in the Eurozone are going to be harmonised by the introduction of the Single European Payment Area (SEPA). Even non-Euro countries like the UK are affected, as their payment systems have comitted to provide SEPA payment services following the new standards for cross-border payments in Euro.
But the biggest change will obviously hit Eurozone countries, where the old national systems of account numbers and bank codex will be fully replaced by IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and BIC (Business Identifier Code).
There are considerable process and technology changes to manage by 31.3.2013, when the new system becomes compulsory for businesses for all bank transfers (one year later also for direct debits). SAP has provided the basis for these changes as early as 2009, but there is work to be done by customers. In HR master data, it doesn't effect infotype 0009 only, but also others like 0011 and many country specific infotypes. On top of that, configuration tables like T521B (payee codes) and custom programs and interfaces need checking.
A prerequisite from the finance module is the Payment Media Workbench (see SAP note 1046199).
